And we’re back! I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last entry. I was on a roll there around Thanksgiving and Christmas time, but then life got in the way. I’m trying to be back though, which is why we’re starting over here on the “new” blog. All the old content is here as well, it’s just better looking for you guys and better running for me!
Along with the new year came new things in life, not all grand, but not all bad either. One of the biggest changes is that I got approved for a revision/conversion from Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy to Roux En-Y/Gastric Bypass. For a long time, I wasn’t sure I wanted this. Actually, I was quite sure that I didn’t want this. Recovery from my sleeve surgery was horrible for me. It’s not that I had complications or anything, it was just a bad time. I had a lot of issues dealing with my anxiety in the hospital, and then once I got home, I was just miserable in general. Sleeping was nearly impossible, but it’s all I wanted to do at the same time. I had to prop my belly up on a body pillow in order to sleep on my side and I kept 6 pillows behind me at all times because laying flat just made everything hurt worse (yay intra-abdominal gas). But with a gain of over 70lbs in the past two years, not doing it wasn’t really an option anymore.
So with this surgery comes a whole new round of diet stages. We all know them, most of them would rather not go back to them. For those who might be new to this, these are the diet stages you will go through post-op:
Example Post-Op Bariatric Diet

Biggest difference for me is that this time around, I know what I’m doing. When I was preparing to have my sleeve done, I searched online to see what I should stock up on. In the end, it pretty much came down to a bunch of stuff I couldn’t eat due to allergies and what not… or yogurt, sugar free pudding, protein shakes and sugar free jello. That got old REALLY quickly. When I got to the soft solid stage, I ate some soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese: It was the best food I had ever tasted! That’s pretty bad! Thankfully I’m not shooting from the hip anymore and I have lots of tried and true recipes that will fit my needs! Thank the almighty Jeebus! When I realized just how much I was working with, I thought that it might be a good idea to make a few posts regarding recipes for the various stages. Below are some of the liquid stage recipes that I’ve recently prepped for post-op. All of these recipes were put together and then weighed out into 2oz cups. I put 1.5oz in each to allow for expansion when it froze. I then labeled and stacked these in freezer bags, which were also labeled.

Protein Pudding

2 pkgs sugar free pudding mix of choice
2 Premier Protein RTD shakes (flavor of choice)
1 cup Fairlife Skim
- In a blender or food processor, combine all liquids before sprinkling pudding mix in.
- Blend on low for 30 to 60 seconds and check to make sure everything is fully combined and smooth.
- Pour into containers and refrigerate for an hour or longer.
-
- Note: if you sub out the Premier Protein for anything else, it may change the texture slightly. Once set, this pudding is more of the consistency of pie filling versus a pudding cup. You can add extra milk to thin it out, just calculate that into your nutrition information.
-

Broccoli Cheddar Soup Sips

1 32oz container of prepared Broccoli Cheddar Soup*
1-2 scoops of Collagen Peptide (or) Bone Broth protein powder
1 cup Chicken Bone Broth (low sodium)
*Note: you can replace the prepared soup with condensed soup or your own homemade recipe for broccoli cheddar soup. If using condensed soup, replace the water that you’d usually add with more bone broth to up the nutritional value.
- In clean blender jar, add all ingredients in the order of the recipe.
- Blend on high for 30-60 seconds making sure everything is fully combined and smooth.
- Pour into containers for later or measure out desired amount into a microwave safe container. Cook in microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between each, until soup reaches desired temperature

Cream of Chicken and Celery Soup Sips

1 can “healthy recipe” condensed Cream of Chicken soup
1 can “healthy recipe” condensed Cream of Celery soup
1-2 scoops of Collagen Peptide (or) Bone Broth protein powder
1 cup Chicken Bone Broth (low sodium)
1 cup Fairlife skim
1 tsp Poultry Seasoning
1 tsp Garlic powder
1 Tbsp Onion powder
1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- In clean blender jar, add all ingredients in the order of the recipe.
- Blend on high for 30-60 seconds making sure everything is fully combined and smooth.
- Taste for seasoning. Add more if desired (adding more/different seasoning is negligible to the nutrition, so don’t worry about having to account for it.)
- Pour into containers for later or measure out desired amount into a microwave safe container. Cook in microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between each, until soup reaches desired temperature
Drinkable Cheesecake

16 oz 1% milk fat Cottage Cheese
1/2 cup Fairlife skim
1 tsp Cream Cheese flavoring
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 tsp liquid Stevia
- Combine all ingredients in blender jar and blend on medium for 30-60 seconds. You may have to stop and scrape down the sides of your blender to make sure everything gets pureed.
- If the mixture is too thick for your preferences, add water 1 Tbsp at a time until it reaches the consistency you’re looking for.
- Serve immediately or portion out and refrigerate for later.
- To up the protein, this can be made with RTD protein shake in place of the milk, or you can add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. This is also a good way to add additional flavor.
Bean Dip Mix

15 oz can fat free Refried Beans
1/2 cup Salsa of choice
2 Tbsp canned Green Chiles
1/2 cup fat free Greek Yogurt
2 scoops Collagen Peptide protein powder
3 oz Smoked Cheddar
1/2 cup Bone Broth
- In clean blender jar, add all ingredients.
- Blend on high for 30-60 seconds making sure everything is fully combined and smooth.
- Add water, 1 Tbsp at a time until dip is your desired consistency.
- Taste for seasoning. Add more if desired (adding more/different seasoning is negligible to the nutrition, so don’t worry about having to account for it.)
- Pour into containers for later or measure out desired amount into a microwave safe container. Serve cool or cook in microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between each, until soup reaches desired temperature.
